PR News Post #2

I just read the article on PR News' Website about responding to online critics and I think it was really helpful advice to PR people in the industry.  They used very good and current examples to help demonstrate their points, so I think that helped make it a better article also.  The three T's is something that I will have to try and remember when I am actually in my PR career.  Timing, Target, and Tone.  They all make sense, and they all work if you think about each one individually, and as a whole.  There are a lot of negative online critics, so it was good for them to write this article to help people out who don't know how to handle it.

PR News Post #1

I recently read an article on the PR news Website titled Measuring Social Media Efforts: How & Why You Need to Do It...  I found it to be very interesting.  At first I didn't understand exactly what the topic was when they said "social media," but now I understand it.  Social media can be anything in media, usually on the Web, that keeps people interacting.  The best example I think they used was discussion boards and blogs.  They mentioned eventually these types of things might replace focus groups, and this would effect the PR industry greatly.  I totally agree with this article.  Not only do I feel this way, but I am also learning about these specific things in more than one of my classes.  I find it very interesting, but also cool that we can slowly move as a society towards technology as a way of communicating.  I know some people feel this is not a good thing and we are losing people skills as a result of texting, blogs, myspace, etc.., but I don't feel that.  Becoming technologically aware does not effect people skills for most people.  The only time I see this happening is when someone takes technology to an extreme and shuts themselves out from the world.  Well, there are my thoughts...  Take them as you may!  If that makes any sense...

DO WHAT YOU LOVE, NO MATTER THE PAYCHECK

Cache Valley Area Investors Association founder Preston Parker Encourages People to Do What They Love

LOGAN, UT – Local Utah State University professor Preston Parker is encouraging everyone to find something that they love and make a career out of it.  He is the President and Founder of Cache Valley Area Investors Association, which was created for people seeking financial independence.  This association is for people who are interested in making a change in their lives.

“People need to know they can work at a job they love, and know they are not doing it for the money.” Parker said, “They can still be financially well off, and in a short amount of time.”

Meetings for CVAIA are held every other Thursday at the Cache County Chamber of Commerce on 160 N. Main St.  Parker said he encourages anyone interested in the association to come by.  He referred to the meetings as a “non-threatening environment.”  People can come and ask any questions they have about careers and finances.  Parker said he wants people to learn how to achieve happiness by doing what they love and not thinking about the money involved.

“Money is not happiness,” Parker said, “The only time money involves happiness is for people needing the basic necessities in life, and after that money is no longer happiness.”

Parker has developed what he calls a “risk pyramid.”  This is a system for people to achieve financial independence.  It works with people investing in certain things step-by-step in order to reach this financial independence

Parker said, “People need to get to a point where their monthly passive income surpasses their monthly expenses.  When they have reached that point, they have achieved Financial Independence.”

People in America have ample opportunity and options to be able to work in a job they enjoy.  Understanding and managing passive income makes this possible.  There are many associations which are helping educate people in how to truly become financially independent.  Cache Valley Area Investors Association based in Logan, Utah, is one such organization.  It was founded in July 2007 and currently has 50 members.

JAYNE PETERSEN ANNOUNCED AS NEW SPOKESPERSON FOR BURGER PLANET

Burger Planet Unveiling New Menu of Healthy Food For Customers Considering Heart Healthy Choices

GARY, IN -- Burger Planet is introducing a new menu of health items.  This is why they have hired fitness guru Jayne Petersen to be there new spokesperson.  Petersen has signed a contract with Burger Planet in order to promote their new health campaign in broadcast and print ads.  She will be featured along with the original mascot Corny the Clown.

When asked why she accepted the offer to be Burger Planet’s new spokesperson Petersen said, "Burger Planet has been a leader in the Quick Service Restaurant industry in offering healthy menu choices. The company believes in encouraging customers to live healthier, active lifestyles and I have spent my life trying to teach women that lesson."

Petersen was chosen to help announce this new and healthy menu for Burger Planet because of her successful transformation of talk show host Opal Whitcomb.  The public saw her not only help Whitcomb lose 75 pounds, but also keep it off. Petersen is also a published author. Her book, "Looking Good in a Leotard" shot up the bestseller list and remained there for a solid year, a record in the self-help industry.

"I emphasize a message of moderation.” Petersen said, “Women can have a burger and fries now and then as long as they are active and also try some of Burger Planet's exciting new menu choices, such as the fruit packages."

Fruit packages are only one of the new health items that have been added to the Burger Planet menu.  They have recently began adding white meat chicken breasts to their menu along with the option to have the chicken wrapped in lettuce in case they are on a low-carb diet.  Another new heart healthy choice that has been added on the menu is a new line of gourmet salads.  Burger Planet has tested all the new health items and found they were very popular with women.

James E. Muellenbach III, company CEO, said that Burger Planet cares about its customers, and that is why they have succeeded for so many years.  He said they always listen to their customers and put them first.

Muellenbach said, “I want our customers to realize that Burger Planet is committed to offering healthy choices on its menu. The hiring of Jayne Petersen fits perfectly in the company's overall focus on healthy lifestyles."

Burger Planet would also like to let already loyal customers know they will still have the same great tasting items that have always been a part of Burger Planet.  This addition of healthy items to the menu was created in order to satisfy the needs of other customers.

Principles and Values

The PRSA Code is designed to be a useful guide for PRSA members as they carry out their ethical responsibilities. The document is designed to anticipate and accommodate, by precedent, ethical challenges that may arise.  The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) is committed to ethical practices. The level of public trust PRSA members seek, as we serve the public good, means we have taken on a special obligation to operate ethically.  The value of member reputation depends upon the ethical conduct of everyone affiliated with the Public Relations Society of America. Each of us sets an example for each other - as well as other professionals - by our pursuit of excellence with powerful standards of performance, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
This came straight from the PRSA code of ethics, and I believe it really tells you a lot about how important values and ethics are in today's society.  It becomes even more important when dealing with any type of journalism, whether it be news writing, public relations, or anything meant to be put in the public eye.  In order for journalism to stay alive and always remain credible to our society, we as journalists must maintain strict principles and values.  The reason for these strict rules among journalists is because without the publics trust and faith in us, we are nowhere.  Our careers wouldn't exist anymore without the basic trust and faith from the public eye.  The public may not realize it, but we (journalists) are just as important to them.  Without us, they wouldn't have anyone to trust but themselves, and they don't have the time to dig into issues and events like we do.  Most information would be solely of word of mouth.  All of this can account for why journalists take their principles and values so seriously.
As far as the difference between principles and values, at first I found it very difficult to determine what it was, but I can say what I've found out about both.  In simple terms, values are the building blocks of principles, while principles show how values are related to each other.  That may seem like an unclear way of putting it, but that is the best way I can explain it.  That is what I came up with after reading about it in different places.

NEW HELP FOR CACHE VALLEY’S HOUSING MARKET

ABC Reality Looking for Credible Investors

--Logan, UT— Preston Parker, president of ABC Real Estate, is looking for wealthy and credible investors in order to help support a new housing development technique for Cache Valley residents.  The system is called Land Trust, and was developed by Bill Gatten. Parker said it is a way to help out the current housing market situation facing America.

“People who participate in this system Gatten has developed can expect a 10 percent to 20 percent return off their initial investment within two to three years.” Parker said, “ We can help people and also get a return from their investment.”

ABC Real Estate is trying to help middle class American’s here in Cache Valley. Parker said this system will help Cache Valley residents who are facing home foreclosure, bad credit scores, and possible eviction.  He said to get the system going, ABC wants to let the valley know they are here and looking for investors.

This new housing investment system involves four types of beneficiaries, including a seller, creditor, investor, and resident.  Parker said the investors help potential residents with bad credit scores by taking a loan out in their own names for them.  The resident then makes small payments to their investor every month to pay off the loan.  Once the house is paid off and worth more than the initial investment, it can be sold to make a profit.  Parker said all four beneficiaries involved with the investment come out with more than they started with and a better credit score.

Parker said potential investors would be residents with knowledge or previous experience with housing situations, great ownership mentality, and preferably lots of money.  Parker said he wants investors who are interested in creative real estate.  He said residents who are interested about investing in this housing system, or anyone looking for more information can go to www.landtrust.net.
