Letter to Cousin

Dear Caden, How are you doing these days? I am writing to let you know how I am doing up at Utah State University. I remember last time we spoke about what I was majoring in, and you didn’t quite understand what it was. Now I am going to let you in on the world of public relations and what it is all about. I hope to give you a better understanding of what I will be working towards at USU. Public relations isn’t what you might think. At first mention of this field of work, most people tend to think it is only for social people who are good with meeting others. There is actually a lot more to public relations than just that. Our professors tell us there are three things you need to be good at in order to be successful in public relations. First, one needs to be not only a great writer, but someone who loves writing in general. When working in public relations one will find that writing is key to landing a good job and being successful at that job. The second thing needed for public relations is conducting research for a client or event. The last important key to public relations is building a great working relationship with all media. When saying media, I am referring to other journalists, editors, newspapers, and broadcasting stations. Now that I’ve told you what I feel are the three important things one needs to have in order to be successful in the field of public relations, I can explain exactly what it is we do as public relations experts. Once I graduate with my degree there are many different areas of work to get into, but they all involve the three important things I told you about. Most public relations jobs include event planning, speech writing, advertising, political advising, or maybe even working for an actual PR firm. At a public relations firm, they will take in clients or businesses and help them have a positive image in the public eye. Employees at the firm might help clients reach out to their community, make advertisement, or get the word out about that companies quality product, service, or employees. Well Caden, now you can see what I will most likely be doing with my future and also have a better understanding of what I am studying. Now you know that public relations is a very important field of work, and it requires the three main concepts I have informed you of. I hope you have a great school year, and eventually find out what you would like to do with your future career opportunities. Sincerely, Your cousin Nick

I think your letter contained tons of valuable information and was easy to understand. The only thing I would say you should work on is forming visible paragraphs. There is just something that takes the concentration away from the content in your paper when there are no breaking points. Good job.
